Berlin Fintech Upvest Lands €108M to Expand AI-Powered Investment Solutions
Berlin’s Upvest has secured a landmark €108 million in funding to revolutionise how banks and fintechs handle securities infrastructure across Europe and the UK.
The round, led by Sapphire Ventures and Tencent, includes a €78 million equity injection and a €30 million debt facility, underscoring the company’s rapid growth and investor confidence in its mission to modernise legacy banking systems.
Martin Kassing, CEO and co-founder of Upvest, highlighted the company’s unique value proposition: “Banks, brokers, and wealth managers choose Upvest for the infrastructure needed to grow their investment propositions profitably and at scale for a new generation of investors.” This latest funding, coming just 12 months after its Series C, signals Upvest’s momentum as the go-to platform for financial institutions aiming to launch and scale cutting-edge investment experiences.
Upvest’s success is part of a broader trend in Europe’s fintech ecosystem, where investment in financial infrastructure startups is surging. While companies like Devengo, Open Payments, and Payrails focus on payments and open banking,
Upvest stands out by specialising in securities infrastructure. Its API-based platform enables end-to-end trading, custody, and back-office services, helping institutions reduce overhead and modernise operations efficiently.
The company’s client roster is impressive, featuring digital banks such as DKB and Santander’s Openbank, as well as global fintechs like Revolut, N26, and Webull. Upvest processes over 100 million trades annually, a testament to its scalability and reliability. Andreas Weiskam of Sapphire Ventures praised Upvest’s enterprise-grade platform, noting its ability to meet the rigorous standards of global financial institutions.
With retail investing on the rise, Upvest is expanding into new asset classes, local tax wrappers, and AI-driven capabilities. The new capital will accelerate its push into Europe’s largest markets, enabling faster deployment of pension products and AI-powered investment tools. Upvest’s focus on local tax solutions, such as Germany’s Altersvorsorgedepot and the UK’s SIPPs, allows financial institutions to bring high-demand products to market in months rather than years.
Upvest is also pioneering AI-supported investment engines, offering real-time, programmable APIs that empower developers and financial institutions to create hyper-personalised advisory services. This innovation positions Upvest at the forefront of the AI investment economy, catering to the evolving needs of retail investors.
