Berlin's transportation startup Omio Reaches 1 Billion Users

Berlin-based Omio, the leading global travel platform, has announced a significant milestone: 1 billion users. This achievement underscores the company’s rapid growth and commitment to transforming the travel industry through innovation and strategic partnerships.

Veronica Diquattro, President of Consumer & Supply Business in Europe at Omio, highlighted the company’s remarkable progress: "We have reached 1 billion users, a testament to our relentless focus on growth and customer satisfaction." The platform’s user base grew by 50% year-over-year in 2024, reflecting its expanding global footprint and increasing relevance in the travel sector.

Omio’s latest strategic move includes a partnership with Navitime Japan Co., Ltd., enabling Japanese travelers to book integrated train tickets for Italy, Spain, and the UK through Navitime Transit’s app and website. This collaboration marks Omio’s entry into the inbound tourism market for Europe, further diversifying its offerings and solidifying its presence in Asia.

The company is also focusing on expanding its inventory both geographically and vertically. The recent launch of services in Southeast Asia is just the beginning, as Omio aims to cover all existing markets comprehensively.

Innovating Travel with AI and Multimodality

Omio continues to differentiate itself through multimodal travel solutions, offering over 175,000 unique connected journeys. These solutions allow users to seamlessly combine flights, trains, buses, and ferries, providing end-to-end travel options tailored to individual needs. For example, travelers can now book combined trips from São Paulo to Zaragoza, integrating flights with ground transportation.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is another cornerstone of Omio’s strategy. The company is leveraging AI to enhance both internal processes and user interactions. From marketing and customer service to operational efficiency, AI is being integrated to save time and resources.

Omio is also exploring AI-driven features for pre-booking discovery and suggestions, ensuring users receive personalized travel recommendations. Additionally, the company is working to integrate its services with AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT, to create new channels for customer engagement.

With 80% of bookings now made via mobile, Omio is prioritizing improvements to its app and platform. The focus is on delivering a seamless, user-friendly experience that meets the evolving needs of modern travelers.

"We are not just connecting destinations; we are connecting experiences," says Diquattro. "Our goal is to make travel as effortless and enjoyable as possible for everyone."
