Berlin to Host Regional Final of Deel’s Global Startup Tournament
Global payroll and HR company Deel is bringing its startup competition, The Pitch, to Berlin on Monday, April 20, as part of a multi-city international tour targeting early-stage founders.
The Berlin event is one of several regional finals taking place across major tech hubs including Paris, London and New York, forming a pathway to a global finale scheduled for May 2026.
The programme is positioned as a large-scale startup tournament, with Deel announcing a total funding pool of more than $15 million. Regional winners can receive $50,000 each, while a smaller group of global winners will secure up to $1 million to scale their businesses.
According to Deel, the initiative aims to reduce geographic bias in venture capital by creating a standardised, merit-based competition process. “The Pitch represents a new standard for global venture,” the company said, adding that the goal is to identify high-potential startups regardless of location or network access.
Startups selected for the Berlin event will deliver short, live pitches as part of a structured evaluation process that combines AI analysis with expert review. Judging criteria include product strength, market opportunity, team capability and scalability.
The format emphasises speed and consistency, with each participating company going through the same pitching framework. Deel describes the process as “fast, fair, and founder-first,” designed to give equal visibility to startups across regions.
The Berlin stop reflects the city’s continued position as one of Europe’s leading startup ecosystems, particularly for early-stage and international founders. Hosting a regional final places Berlin alongside other global tech centres in the competition’s circuit.
More than 20,000 startups are expected to participate globally, with only a small fraction advancing through each stage. Organisers note that the selection rate is highly competitive, underscoring the scale and ambition of the programme.
The event also includes access to a wider founder network and partner ecosystem, with backing from major investors and technology companies.
With its Berlin event, Deel’s initiative adds another international startup competition to the city’s growing calendar of tech-focused events, reinforcing its role as a hub for venture activity in Europe.
