Enpal Eliminates Entire Customer Service Team
Berlin-based energy startup Enpal has laid off 97 employees from its photovoltaic customer service division during a company-wide meeting, according to reports. The decision was announced without prior warning, and affected staff were informed that their roles had been terminated with immediate effect.
Employees attending the meeting initially believed it to be a routine internal update. However, management and HR representatives informed them within minutes that the entire department would be dissolved. Shortly after the announcement, access to company systems was blocked.
Enpal stated that all affected employees received formal notice of termination and were placed on garden leave. The company also offered individual consultations and severance packages. “All affected employees were given proper notice of termination and placed on garden leave in this process,” said Enpal manager Wolfgang Gründinger
The restructuring is part of a broader shift in Enpal’s service model, which had reportedly been in preparation for about a year. The company is replacing its previous customer service structure with dedicated advisors who will act as single points of contact for customers throughout the solar installation process.
According to Enpal, more than 100 positions for these new “construction and customer advisors” have already been filled, both internally and externally. The company said the new structure is designed to improve continuity and customer satisfaction.
The layoffs come at a time when Enpal has been under increased public scrutiny. Earlier in 2026, the company faced criticism following a failed attempt to establish a works council, which drew attention to internal tensions.
Enpal is one of Berlin’s most prominent energy startups and reached unicorn status in 2021. Its most recent valuation was reported at €2.3 billion.
