Nox Mobility Secures Funding to Build Private Cabin Night Trains in Europe

Berlin-based startup Nox Mobility has secured €2 million in pre-seed funding as it works toward launching its first overnight rail routes in 2027. The investment will support hiring, development of a full-scale train mock-up, and early operational planning.

The funding round was led by IBB Ventures, with participation from Italian investor Tommaso Lucca and Patrick Andrae, co-founder and CEO of HomeToGo.

“Night trains are one of Europe’s last big untapped mobility opportunities. The infrastructure already exists and the market is waiting,” said Artur Hasselbach. “Raising this round shows that investors believe in our approach to create a loveable product with a business model that works.”

Founded in 2025 by Thibault Constant, Janek Smalla and Hasselbach, the Berlin tech startup is focused on redesigning night train travel across Europe. Its concept replaces traditional shared compartments with fully private rooms, targeting both leisure and business travellers as an alternative to short-haul flights.

The company plans to operate trains departing central stations in the evening and arriving the next morning in city centres, aligning with growing demand for more efficient and lower-emission travel options within Europe.

According to the company, private cabins aim to address long-standing passenger concerns around comfort and reliability. Travellers can choose from three room types, including loft-style cabins with elevated beds and seating areas, as well as “Double Vista” rooms designed with easier access and flexible seating configurations.

“For leisure travellers, the journey becomes a night’s rest and skips the extra hotel stay altogether,” the company said in a statement. “Business travellers avoid early departures, overnight stays, and lost working time.”

Co-founder Constant, who also built the rail-focused media platform Simply Railway with more than 600,000 followers, said customer feedback played a key role in shaping the concept.

“They tell me every week what’s broken: the shared compartments, the delays, the prices. Nox Mobility is the result of years of riding night trains,” Constant said.

Looking ahead, Nox Mobility aims to expand its network to connect more than 100 European cities by 2035, positioning itself within Berlin’s growing ecosystem of mobility and climate-focused tech startups.
