Salesforce to Acquire Berlin's Contentful
Salesforce has announced plans to acquire Contentful, a content management platform founded in Germany, in a move aimed at expanding the capabilities of its AI offerings.
Founded in 2013, Contentful developed an API-first content platform that helps businesses create, manage, and distribute digital content across multiple channels, including websites, blogs, mobile apps, and social media. The company operates from offices in Berlin, London, and the United States.
Contentful serves more than 4,800 brands worldwide, providing tools that support the delivery of tailored digital experiences across different customer touchpoints.
According to Salesforce, the acquisition will enhance Agentforce, its AI agent platform, by integrating a content management layer directly into the system. This is expected to enable AI agents to generate and deliver relevant content automatically across a variety of channels.
Salesforce executives said effective customer engagement increasingly depends on combining accurate data, AI-generated insights, and seamless digital experiences. By bringing Contentful into its ecosystem, the company aims to strengthen the connection between these elements and improve how businesses interact with customers.
Contentful CEO Karthik Rau said the deal aligns with the company’s goal of helping enterprises create and deliver digital experiences more efficiently. He noted that Contentful’s API-first architecture complements Salesforce’s technology stack and could accelerate innovation in customer engagement.
The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
Contentful attracted significant investor interest during its growth phase. In 2021, the company raised $175 million in a funding round that valued the business at more than $3 billion. The round was led by Tiger Global, with participation from Base10 Advancement Initiative and Tidemark.
Among Contentful’s early supporters was Balderton, which backed the company shortly after its founding.
The acquisition reflects the growing importance of content infrastructure in AI-powered enterprise software, as technology companies look to combine automation, data, and content delivery within a single platform.
